Specialization on electrical wiring of buildings, machines and stationary is done by an electrician. Electricians are equipped with the knowledge and skill of handling electrical wiring of buildings, stationery and machinery. The course done by an electrician is electrical engineering which he applies in solving electrical related issues. Having a high school diploma or an equivalent degree is what makes up an electrician.
Some of the focus areas that looked into in high school diploma are fundamental, practical courses and physical science. Math fundamental requires one to be good in algebra while physical science requires one to have an understanding particularly in physics of electrical current and finally practical courses offer courses such as automotive mechanics, electronics wood shop to be fully complete as an electrician. Upon receiving a high school diploma then vocational programs and apprenticeship are followed through. A license is applied by an electrician after completing an apprenticeship or vocational program.
Proof of apprenticeship completion, test scores that demonstrate knowledge of NEC and state building codes, relevant fees and proof of having the required amount of experience in electrical trade are some of the process that are followed when applying for a license. An electrician’s role and responsibilities are based on the area of specialization. One of the responsibilities of an electrician is forming electrical circuits by connecting electrical wires to components and fixtures and testing completed circuit.
The other role of an electrician is planning the electrical system for new buildings including the best position for electrical outlets, heating outlets, ventilation systems and light fixtures. New and existing buildings are installed wiring, lighting and control systems which is in accordance with municipal codes as the other role of electricians. Reading and interpretation of architect blueprints, circuit diagrams and other technical documents is also done by an electrician.
Wiring of ships, mobile platforms, data, cable and airplanes are the various areas in which electricians specialize in. Courses like electrical engineering can be specialized as it’s a broad course. Due to the work load of electricians their physical presence is ultimately required. Climbing ladders, lifting tools and supplies are some of the activities involved by the availability of electricians. In their work electricians bend, squat and kneel.
The factors to consider when choosing an electrician includes; intellectual ability, interpersonal skills, knowledge of safety codes, character traits and ethics and finally business ethics. Time management, customer service and personal service, clerical abilities and working with a team or people management are the basic business skills in business understanding. Electricians are required to have interpersonal skills which are; observation skills and empathy, instruction, active listening and communication skills.
